Our History

CoOptions was founded in 1993 by CPG marketing and sales executives in Fairfield County, Connecticut, our office on the Post Road in Darien during our first 10 years of operation. CoOptions built its early foundation on partnership marketing and strategic tie-ins, establishing numerous relationships across consumer industries and categories.

We quickly became recognized as the "partnership gurus" who connected the dots between brands, retailers and unique lifestyle touchpoints. But unlike many tie-in firms, we also created and executed the campaigns for our clients against trial, frequency and usage objectives.

Our strategic focus grew to include unique and proprietary themed co-operative programs, which allowed us to create consumer/shopper "solution sets" for retailers and brands together.

Built around key seasonal and category drive periods, promotional events, usage occasions or impactful social trends, we created and executed some of the best known thematics in the industry, including those for Blockbuster Video®, K·B Toy Stores®, Hallmark®, CVS/pharmacy®, Kroger® and Albertsons®.

Concurrently, we grew our Sampling Solutions business, managing thousands exclusive lifestyle touchpoints for pinpoint product sampling, delivering more than half a billion samples since inception.

In 2003, we moved our headquarters to Cary, North Carolina, transitioning our product sampling division and its staff to strategic alliance partner Octagon Marketing, an Interpublic company. In 2010, we absorbed Octagon's Sampling Solutions back into CoOptions, creating a new sampling services brand called The Sampling StoreTM.

In addition to offering clients a wide array of highly targeted lifestyle touchpoints for contextual sampling and trial, Sampling Store assets have become the "LIFE" portion of CoOptions unique LIFE-TO-SHELFTM shopper marketing business model - our out-of-store caché of touchpoints that give us the ability to tie shopper lifestyle to shelf edge to complete the purchase cycle. This a unique capability has become CoOptions' core competency and point-of-difference in the industry.
